For editors, a dictionary is a professional tool. Though standards of spelling and line breaks may change slowly, new vocabulary and standards for hyphenation and usage require the kind of continuous revision that had been impossible until recently. Online updates made at a faster pace and without the space restrictions of the printed page mean that the most current research is readily found online.
